You have a good point about how it has been migrated online but I do have to say that the in-person part of sharing a trip is really important and having someone who will sit and really listen even more crucial to the equation. I don't think that we've "lost" the art form. Rather, I think that it's migrated online. When you take all of the snippets that are posted as status updates, they are, in effect, the same snippets that you would hear in a slideshow. The problem seems to be that we no longer sit down and do it all in one shot. That, and we eschew the human interaction... I tried to do fairly detailed "slideshows" during the Olympics & in the months following while I was still a newbie in Beijing. While doing it, I often had an image of me putting on a slideshow as I arranged my photos & wrote captions for each. Maybe this isn't something that we "don't" do anymore.
